History: He was created by Velra thousands of years ago and is one of the few remaining ancient vampires still existing in the mortal realm. He was bonded to the daughter of the King of the Winter Fairy Court, who was very powerful, which allowed him to survive easily off of her magical power. She was killed by a mob of primitive humans, and he retreated to the mountains in grief, where he eventually built his home. He spent millennia alone in solitude, merely protecting the area he claimed as his own, but in recent centuries, he has begun to form a coven of his own and is slowly overcoming the trauma of his past. He accepted the invitation to the ball because the others insisted that it would be fun to go.

Abilities/Skills: immune to age and sickness, enhanced strength, speed, hearing, and vision, night vision, incredible healing ability, can create other vampires, can siphon energy from others (life as well as magic), expert swordsman, very intelligent and knowledgeable about many things
Personality: He is direct and usually comes across as rude and surly. His social skills are almost non-existent after living alone in the mountains for so long, though he is getting better. He has a short fuse but is not usually violent unless pushed to his limit. He is possessive and territorial. If it is his, he will protect it at all costs. He avoids any and all conversations related to romantic relationships and religiously ignores the romantic feelings he knows others have for him.

Non-Bonding Companions for the Ball: None

Story: As soon as they arrived at the venue, Valerian made himself scarce. There were far too many people for his taste, and he quickly found a dark corner not too far from a bar that served a variety of interesting drinks he had never heard of. He chose something that seemed worthwhile before returning to his corner.

Once he was seated in his dark corner, he turned his attention outward. He had lived for thousands of years, and he had visited several of the other realms connected to his own world. But he had never seen anything quite like this. It was incredible. People and sentient creatures of all kinds milled around the area enjoying food, drinks, and dancing. He had no interest in food. He certainly could eat, but he didn't enjoy the sensation. Dancing was certainly out of the question, but his current drink was quite tasty, and he looked forward to trying the other offerings.

He quickly finished off his first drink and went back for a second before retreating once again to his claimed spot in the corner. He once more had to wonder what in the world had convinced him to come to such an event. A flash of red hair from the dance floor reminded him instantly. Right. It was all Hendrik's fault, as usual. The much younger man had spoken of little else ever since he'd discovered the ball that was taking place. How he had discovered such a thing and managed to wrangle the magical invitation was still a mystery, but Valerian had eventually agreed to go if he would only cease talking about it or to him until the event arrived.

The deal, which he had been sure Hendrik would be unable to keep, had earned him a solid two weeks of peace and quiet, but he had to wonder if the price for said peace and quiet was too high now that he was here. As he finished his second drink, though, he had to admit that the offerings were excellent. So, that was a plus.

After five drinnks, all different, Valerian finally felt himself begin to relax, and he began to wonder if it was possible for him to get tipsy. It had never happened before, but he knew the other members of his coven certainly could. He had always put it down to their being mortal beforehand, which he had never been. It was quite possible that whatever they were serving here was much stronger than what they had back in their own realm. It occurred to him that coming here, perhaps, had not been such a bad idea.
