History: She was born as the only child of a merchant and his wife. Her father died when she was still very young, and she has only the vaguest memories of him. Her mother remarried a couple of years later a lower nobleman of the city. Despite not being his blood relation, her step-father has always treated her well, and she grew up in a fairly happy home. However, she was never content to sit and sew quietly and often snuck out of her house to watch the guards of the city train, which is how she met Sidney. She has accompanied her friend on all of his adventures in an effort to keep him alive and has learned many skills out of necessity in doing so. She knows he is hoping to hang up his adventuring hat after this particular hunt, but she's not sure what else she would do.

Abilities/Skills: Swordfighting, Basic Healing, Basic Navigation, Mending, Money Management, Negotiating
Personality: She is confident and intelligent and the real leader of the group. She constantly tries to guide Sidney into making the best choices but cannot stand actually taking the leadership away from him as she is rather vulnerable to his kicked puppy face. She is practical and logical and cool-headed during crises, which seem to happen with increasing frequency when Sidney is involved. She handles all of the groups finances and is rather good at bartering.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The group stood before the rather ominous ediface of the ruined Temple of Morbis, God of Chaos. The temple had once been the haven of a group of dark worshipers and was said to house untold treasures, but none had ever been recovered. Those that had ventured inside had not been seen again.
"Well, this looks quite promising," Sid stated with a grin as he looked over the massive building, which seemed to devour any sunlight that reached it.
"That it does. The question is promising what," Ver said with a snort.
"Curses, traps, possibly undead or demonic guardians," Marin informed them with a thoughtful nod. She'd already read as much as she could about the place.
"Whatever it is, we'll smash it and grab the gold," Amon declared as he readied his massive hammer.
Simeon sighed. "Just remember that I can only fix so much. My curse breaking isn't really top notch, and I don't practice necromancy. So, if you die, it's kind of final."
"And, on that cheery note, we should probably figure out how to get inside," Ver said with a shake of her head.
They gradually drew closer to the building, and Sid cried out in triumph. "Aha! Here is a door!"
"A very big, heavy, front entrance door, which is probably heavilty guarded and/or trapped," Marin pointed out and watched their leader deflate. "Still, it is a viable entrance, but these kinds of buildings usually have a much safer less noticeable entrance."
"Which way should we go then," Simeon asked with a glance at the others.
"I think it would be best if we examine the rest of the outside first," Ver offered. "We do not know the surrounding area yet, and for all we know, there are still worshipers hanging around. I would not want to be caught unaware."
"I agree," Simeon said with a nod. "Better to know all we can before entering. It may help us escape more quickly as well, if needed."
"Very well," Sid said with a nod. "We'll split up and meet back here. Marin and I will go right, and the rest of you can go left. We'll walk around the building as much as we can until we get back here."
The others all agreed and set out. An hour later, they had all returned, hot and irritated. "There's no other door," Amon complained loudly.
"I said there usually is," Marin reminded with a shrug. "It's not as if there is any rulebook for these kinds of things."
"Well, what now," he returned in irritation.
*Each character rolls a d20, and the result will indicate the next actions as well as the success.*
Sid - 10, Ver - 5, Marin - 16, Amon - 3, Simeon - 7
Marin hummed to herself as she approached the door while Amon continued to grumble under his breath. "Ah! Here we are," she said as she pushed a series of stones in the door, and it easily opened. "That should also have disarmed the first trap, a bunch of flying arrows. Still, probably best to proceed with caution."
"Perfect," Sid exclaimed before smacking Marin's back. "Well done! I couldn't have done better myself. Now onward," he declared as he stepped into the gloom before promptly tripping. "Ack! Well, we should probably light a torch, yes."
"Way ahead of you," Ver stated as she held the torch she had lit outside in front of her and slowly moved into the building. It had a rather sinister feel to it, and parts of the walls emitted an odd, unearthly, purple glow.
"This must be where the arrows would have come out," Marin said as she glanced at holes in the wall that were regularly spaced.
"Well, it's a good thing you disarmed the trap then," Simeon commented with a shake of his head. "Otherwise, we would have wound up looking like a pincushion."
The group continued to walk silently after that, well aware of the dangerous environment they had entered. After a few more minutes of eerie silence, they could see a light up ahead of them. "Look, there is a light," Sid pointed out the obvious and moved ahead of the others.
*Each character rolls a d20, and the result will indicate the next actions as well as the success.*
Sid - 2, Ver - 15, Marin - 14, Amon - 9, Simeon - 13
Ver grabbed the back of Sid's shirt, stopping him in his path. "Remember the trap at the front entrance," she reminded before motioning Marin to move cautiously forward.
The other woman took a few moments to read the glyphs on the wall and then nodded. "Yep, another trap. Anyone have anything heavy that they would be willing to sacrifice?"
"Here," Simeon said as he held up a decent sized rock. "I picked it up as we entered in case we needed to trip any more traps. Glad I did."
Marin nodded. "Amon, do you think you could throw this rock so that it lands right in the center of that beam of light," Marin asked as she pointed out what she meant.
The large man nodded before taking the rock from Simeon. He hefted it a couple of times before judging the distance and lobbing the rock so that it landed in the light as requested. A moment later, there was a sputter and three different flame spurts erupted from the walls and ground.
Once the flames had run out of fuel, they approached slowly to see the blackened rock. "Well, glad we were able to stop you, Sid. Otherwise, that would have been a Catts-tastrophe."
The others all groaned at the bad joke, but were used to it by now. "Which way now," Ver asked as she looked left and then right. The trap had been at a T intersection.
*Each character rolls a d20, and the result will indicate the next actions as well as the success.*
Sid - 11, Ver - 11, Marin - 19, Amon - 6, Simeon - 9
"I say we should go right," Sid declared with confidence. "In these places, right is always the correct direction!"
"I agree with him," Amon added with a nod.
"I don't know," Ver hesitated, but then Sid gave her his puppy dog eyes, and she caved quickly. "Right it is, I guess."
"You probably want to go left," Marin stated after a few moments. "This says that right leads to certain death. Left leads to the Room of Untold Knowledge."
"I vote left," Simeon said as he moved in that direction.
Sid gulped slightly. "Well, left would have been my second choice, of course."
Ver rolled her eyes but managed to refrain from commenting. Thank goodness for Marin was all she could say.
After a few more minutes of silence, they spotted an elaborate door ahead of them.
*Each character rolls a d20, and the result will indicate the next actions as well as the success.*
Sid - 18, Ver - 14, Marin - 12, Amon - 5, Simeon - 20
"We've made it," Sid cried exultantly as he moved ahead towards the door.
Ver reached out to grab him, but she missed his shirt and instead stumbled, the torch swaying dangerously towards the floor.
Marin didn't have time to finish the translation of the runes on the walls before there was an ominous click from under Sid's foot.
Anticipating danger, Simeon shot out both hands in front of him to cast a shield spell on their leader, just as a load of rocks fell on him from above. Luckily the shield held. "Remember what I said before," the healer asked, rather out of breath from the exertion. "I can't really fix being squashed by a rock either."
"Yes, thank you for that," Sid replied with a gulp. "It's greatly appreciated. Now, let's see," he continued as he looked the door over. "There doesn't seem to be a handle or hinges."
*Each character rolls a d20, and the result will indicate the next actions as well as the success.*
Sid - 5, Ver - 10, Marin - 15, Amon - 11, Simeon - 20
"Give me a moment to translate these," Marin stated as she moved forward and began to read the runes on the door.
"Yes, there appears to be some sort of complicated locking system here," Sid stated as he rubbed his chin in thought.
"We could just bash it open," Amon commented as he hefted his hammer, ready for action.
"Or, we could just push it open since it's not locked," Simeon commented as the door opened to his slight push on it and slid into the wall.
"Of course, that works, too," Sid exclaimed happily before motioning Ver to enter first with the torch.
*Each character rolls a d20, and the result will indicate the next actions as well as the success.*
Sid - 19, Ver - 15, Marin - 17, Amon - 11, Simeon - 12
As Ver stepped into the room, there was a distinct click once more, and Sid immediately pulled the woman back just as the floor underneath her gave way. "Well, it was a good thing we didn't fall into that pit," he said as he looked down at it.
"Definitely," Marin agreed with a nod as she spoke from the back of the group. "I was just about to tell you about it. It has spikes at the bottom apparently. Rather nasty end if you ask me."
It was Ver's turn to gulp this time. "Thanks," she said as she gripped Sid's arm for a moment.
"How are we going to get across, though, to see the rest of the room? The treasure has got to be on the other side, right," Amon questioned as he leaned against the wall.
"This is certainly the Room of Untold Knowledge," Marin confirmed before adding. "However, there is no telling what is actually here. It could simply be their library, which might greatly interest me, but I doubt it would be worth much monatarily speaking."
"Well, whatever is in here, we still need to get across to see it," Simeon pointed out the obvious as he stared into the room.
*Each character rolls a d20, and the result will indicate the next actions as well as the success.*
Sid - 10, Ver - 16, Marin - 15, Amon - 3, Simeon - 9
Ver hummed to herself as she examined the area around the trap. "I think I can manage to walk around the edge here," she stated as she handed the torch off to Sid. "Don't set yourself on fire," she warned.
"That only happened once," Side pouted but held the torch well away from him in order to light her path.
Ver inched her way around the wall, and after some very harrowing moments, she made it to safer ground.
"Now what," Amon called. "Do you see anything shiny?"
"There should be a lever somewhere in there that will close the trap," Marin told her after finishing her translation.
Ver searched the immediate area and spotted the lever. "Here," she called before pulling it. She crowed in triumph as the floor before her companions closed.
The rest of the team entered the room cautiously, hoping the floor would not give way under their weight, and they all breathed a sigh of relief as they made it across the trap and into the room. The purple glowing runes upon the walls seemed much more concentrated here, and there was clearly some kind of archaic circle etched into the stone floor. Holes spaced at regular intervals around the circle seemed as if they once held something, perhaps candles, though there was no wax around the openings to indicate that. As they further examined the room, they found that Marin's estimation had been closer to the truth. The room was lined with shelves that were full of tomes and scrolls, and while Marin was happily examining them, the rest were looking for some kind of hidden cache of gold or something a bit more useful.
"What about this odd circle," Sid asked as he moved back towards it. "Do you think it somehow leads to a treasure room?"
"It could," Ver admitted with a thoughtful nod before adding, "Or it could summon a demon. We are in a temple of Morbis after all."
*Each character rolls a d20, and the result will indicate the next actions as well as the success.*
Sid - 10, Ver - 19, Marin - 18, Amon - 20, Simeon - 18
"Do you think these crystals have anything to do with it," Simeon asked as he dug a crystal out of a pile of rubble. It appeared purple in color but looked dull in the dim light.
"Probably," Ver admitted with a nod. "Let's see if we can find some more."
The others agreed, and soon they had found five crystals in the room. After looking at one another, they placed the crystals in the holes around the circle and waited in silent anticipation. Nothing happened.
"Hmm, put the crystals into the slots," Marin began to mumble to herself as she read from some ancient tome she had found. "Recite the words. Did that. Why isn't it working?"
Amon huffed in annoyance. "Come on," he cried in frustration as he lifted his hammer and brought it down into the middle of the circle.
There was a sharp flash of purple light as all the crystals began to glow at once. When the adventurers could look at the circle again, they found a strange circular portal leading... outside? Bright blue skies and a pleasant breeze reached out to them through the portal.
"That must be where the treasure is," Sid exclaimed before eagerly stepping through.
"Sid, get back here! We don't know where this thing leads," Ver called after him as she followed.
Amon shrugged. "There's got to be something good in there, right," he asked no one in particular as he, too, entered the portal.
Marin and Simeon followed the others silently. The first was eager to explore how the portal worked exactly, and the second just wanted to make sure his friends lived through the experience.
"Would you look at that," Marin commented after they had all gone through the portal. "It looks like the portal has closed behind us, or, perhaps, it is only a one-way portal to begin with."
The others all stared at her in shock for a moment before Sid cleared his throat. "I am sure we'll find our way again! For now, onward," he stated before marching off to the right.
The rest shrugged their shoulders and followed after their leader. What else were they supposed to do?
